In April 1991
the group formed their own record label, Blackberry Records, which
is the first black-owned and operated record label in Mississippi
that has major distribution. Their first release on the label entitled
This is Your Night reached No. 4 on Billboard Magazine’s gospel
chart. They were also nominated for a Grammy Award for the same
album in the category of Best Soul Gospel Album (Traditional) in
1991 and won the Stellar Award for Best Performance Group or Duo
(Traditional) in 1991. In January 1995 their release entitled In
This Place, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts, was also
nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Soul Gospel Album (Traditional)
category in 1995.
Their latest
album, "Still Standing", featuring Stevie Wonder on the song "Too
Close", was released on May 13, 1997 and remained on the Billboard
gospel charts for 12 months, and is still receiving rave reviews.
Television appearances
for The Williams Brothers include Soul Train Awards, Stellar Awards,
Bobby Jones Gospel, CBS News, Living the Dream: A Tribute to Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr., People Get Ready in London, Singsation
and The CNN Gospel Special.
The group has
also made three concept videos and five live concert videos.
They have performed
in such venues as Madison Square Garden, Cobo Hall, Radio City Music
Hall, Apollo Theatre, Disneyland, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Grand
Ole Opry, Carnegie Hall, Front Row Theatre, Paramount Theatre and
numerous colleges and universities across the U. S.
